I finally got to visit the new building that opened at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, and it was even more spectacular than I imagined. A modern architectural masterpiece with rammed earth walls that echo the sandstone of the original building. Glass curves and angles flood the space with light to showcase the art at its best.

To commemorate the gallery’s new home is the exhibition Dreamhome: Stories of Art and Shelter. Artists were invited to share their idea of what home means to them. Their interpretation could be the location, environment, people, memories or stories.

The exhibit is displayed across rooms that allow you to shift between areas and take you on a journey. A highlight was the mesmerising Guts by LA based artist Samara Golden. An installation of mixed media of an apartment block with a mirrored interior that seems endless. Rising up to the ceiling and downward like a visual labyrinth. Each level has objects, bodies, furniture and fabric that creates a multi layered kaleidoscope. There were many artworks that reflect ‘home’ as a place of beauty but also of conflict and uncertainty.
