MASTERSTROKE // virtual gallery

Months ago I had planned my trips to the Art Gallery of NSW and then we went into lockdown (again!). Although it’s not quite the same as seeing the artworks up close, I am so glad they have put them online with 3D virtual tours. You can access the gallery remotely with 360-degree technology that allows you to immerse yourself and experience the exhibitions from home.

I am sad that I missed seeing Hilma af Klint: The Secret Paintings in person but her works do not disappoint on-screen. Swedish artist Hilma af Klint’s life is fascinating and she is finally being recognised as a pioneer of abstract art. Her colourful, symbolic and graphic paintings look so modern and current today. Amazingly these paintings were created more than a century ago and she had requested for them to be concealed for at least 20 years. Her visionary approach is inspiring and I spent hours exploring every detail with Hilma af Klint at Home (tour here).

Every year I try to go to the Archibald Prize, one of Australia’s oldest and most prestigious art awards. This year’s Archibald, Wynne and Sulman Prizes 2021 is also on the AGNSW’s website. You can discover the faces and stories behind the portraits with clickable hotspots for each artwork’s label. Moving around the floor plan and between rooms lets you explore the full exhibit with Archie at Home (visit here).
